ECCO 2017: The Call to Planetary Resilience

From October 6 to 11, 2017, 250 activists from communities, ecovillages, and the permaculture movement met along with leaders of indigenous communities and representatives from more than 20 countries, at the IBC in Alto Paraíso de Goiás. It was time for the ECCO 2017.   This was the second International Meeting of the CASA Network since it's founding in 2012, and the first with the support and participation of the Global Ecovillage Network (GEN), who brought representatives from 4 of their 5 member-regions around the world (Africa, Europe, Latin America, and Asia). International CASA Gathering: ECCO 2015!

Dear Family! We are happy to share news from one of the most important activities Común Tierra has been organizing for a good part of this year: The International CASA Gathering, ECCO 2015, in Aldea Feliz, Colombia! After several years of participation and service to the CASA Network, we took on the big challenge of organizing the Second International CASA Gathering, working with a team of other CASA members! The Importance of Group Facilitation in building Sustainable Community Projects

Diana Leafe Christian, after many years of studying EcoVillages around the world, determined that 90 percent of Ecovillage projects fail, with only 10 percent successfully enduring over time. With our experience in the Común Tierra Project, after visiting 120 ecovillages and permaculture projects in Latin America and some in Europe over the last 5 years, we have confirmed that the most difficult aspect for the majority of these projects is the human relations and the social dimension. Report from the African EcoVillage Gathering!

One of the most inspiring aspects of being part of CASA, the Council of Sustainable Settlements of the Americas, has been the opportunity to work with GEN (the Global EcoVillage Network) and the other EcoVillage networks around the world! And with this new contact, Leticia of the Común Tierra Project was able to participate in the the African EcoVillage Network (GEN Africa) gathering! The Global EcoVillage Network Conference

Hello Earth Family! We want to tell you about one of the most beautiful events that happened this year. From July 7-12, 2013 Leticia attended the Global Ecovillage Network (GEN) Conference in the Schweibenalp Community, Switzerland. It was a historic conference for the network, with the greatest diversity in it’s 18 years of existence, bringing together 300 participants from 51 countries. Ecovillagers and eco- activists from all continents shared how the sustainable community movement is growing in their regions, and how global connection is important to strengthen local processes. Building our CASA! Creating a new sustainability network!

What's up family? As we wrote in the last post, we were very involved at the People's Summit with the organization process of the network CASA (Council of Sustainable Settlements of the Americas). CASA is an emerging network that seeks to integrate and strengthen the movement for sustainable settlements in Latin America, and is connected to GEN (the Global Ecovillage Network). CASA was created in Colombia during the Consejo de Visiones: Llamado de la Montaña 2012 (Vision Council: Call of the Mountain 2012), which was also the First Ibero-American EcoVillage Gathering. This new organization grew out of discussions we participated in at the event Consejo de Visiones in November. The network will function as an educational resource as well as social network.
