Común Tierra on the Regenerative Route in Uruguay!

Posted on September, 30 2016

After almost a year in Argentina between comings and goings, we crossed the Uruguay River to arrive in one of Latin America's smallest countries: Uruguay!  The country presents visitors and travelers with a low-key territory and population, one or two gears below the rhythm of it's giant neighbors Argentina and Brasil. Our time in Uruguay was really enjoyable, meeting new friends and allies while documenting local experiences in Permaculture and Ecovillages that are sprouting up organically around the country.  We crossed the border in Paysandú, where on that very day we hosted a Film Screening session (accompanied by lots of yerba mate, of course) with Camino al Sol, an alternative school that we ...

Building Living Roofs in the Permaculture School of Uruguay!

Posted on November, 24 2015

Just one week after the Uruguayan National Communities Gathering, we made our way up through the mini-mountains of Rocha (even visiting the highest peak of the country at just under 1700 feet above sea level) towards La Escuela de Vida en Permacultura (The School of Life in Permaculture). Elda Villalba, founder of the project and a friend we first met in June 2015 during CLAP and ECCO in Colombia, is known as one of the pioneer Permaculture practitioners and instructors in Uruguay. And as an added bonus, our visit coincided with a workshop on Living Roofs and Roof Tiles led by Bioconstrucción Zunandi.   Over the course of just two days, we installed a ...

The 2nd Annual Uruguayan Communities Gathering!

Posted on November, 12 2015

Dear friends -  Común Tierra continues en route in Uruguay with lots of activities and visiting several local projects. One of the interesting events we have participated in was the National Uruguayan Communities Gathering which took place Nov. 7 - 8 in a community called (for now) 'La 23' in the foothills of Rocha.  This gathering had happened regularly many years ago, but was put on pause for several years, and in 2014 was picked up again. That makes 2015 the second edition, which brought together about 60 adults and many children.  The purpose of the event was to be more internal (the invitation was not shared openly for example) to have a space ...

Passupreto Imagería: Documenting popular culture in Brasil and now Uruguay!

Posted on November, 06 2015

One of the coolest things that happens when you are traveling is when you meet other travellers on the road, and then by surprise find them again in an entirely different place! That's exaxctly what happened with our friends Tainá and Bruno, Brazilian friends from the nomadic project Passupreto Imagería, who travel by bicycle producing and sharing audio-visual materials about local and popular culture al expression in the places they pass through. We had first met Tainá in the 2012 Call of the Mountain gathering in Colombia, and then met her again during the Rio+20 events in Rio de Janeiro. And now, a new meeting in a new country: Uruguay! From left to right: Tainá, ...

Hasta Luego Argentina – Good Morning Uruguay!

Posted on October, 14 2015

Between comings and goings, after almost a year in Argentina, traveling this vast country from north to south, west to east, leaving and returning, we have completed the Argentina phase of our trip! But before leaving, we had a few last activities in Córdoba and Santa Fé:   Agro-Ecology Market of Córdoba We were once again present in this beautiful market, seeing old friends and making new ones, sharing organic seeds, information about ecovillages and projects in Latin America, and of course, drinking lots of Mate!       Común Tierra EcoCine in Córdoba We hosted a fun evening of EcoCine in the city of Córdoba, sharing our videos in Espacio Dadá, a cafe/cultural center that graciously received the ...
