Family!

What a pleasure to be on the road! It’s been a great month and a half riding in Minhoca around Central Chile and getting to know the Chileans and some interesting projects here!

We made a quick visit to the project BioUrbanizando, which works with urban organic farming and beekeeping in Santiago. Then we spent a few days with the Ecological Community "Blowing in the Wind," a “not intentional community” that has grown over the last 20 year in Reñaca Alta. ‘Blowing’ as it’s called locally is a really nice place that is home to over 20 families in a type of "green neighborhood." All the houses are built with natural materials, many with dry toilets, gardens and animals. Many residents are involved with the green movement of Chile, hosting diverse workshops, and an onsite school has just opened up.

During our visit there we also spent time at a nieghboring project, Pio Pio, founded by Carol, a friend who envisions building a permaculture learning school and beyond .... and from there we continued south!

ALTERNATIVE ENERGY WORKSHOP IN TALCA

On our way south, we participated in a workshop on Energy Efficiency in a family farm hosted by two friends Elena and David, who are applying permaculture techniques and principles to an old family ranch. We were learning and working with more than 50 participants, as well as lending a hand around the farm.

During the workshop we also shared about some of the alternative energy solutions we have in the Minhoca: our Bike Machines, Solar Oven, Solar Panels ... We were impresesd by how many people there are interested in these topics here in Chile!

DRAGON DREAMING WORKSHOP!

One of the most exciting recent activities was our participation in a Dragon Dreaming Workshop! Dragon Dreaming is a methodology for developing regenerative projects for the world, founded by John Croft a few years ago. We heard a talk by John at Rio+20 in 2012 and were delighted, but we did not find any opportunities to immerse in the subject until now.

In South America the methodology is being brought by various instructors and Ronald Sistek is one of them, a Chilean who is deeply involved in the project and committed to sharing this information here in the South.

That's good for us!

So we found ourselves in a weekend intensive with about 25 other participants to receive the Introduction to Dragon Dreaming. We learned about the practice’s origins, the connection to the Deep Ecology movement and other philosophies, and the development of the 4 stages of a project: Dream, Plan, Do, and Celebrate.

We had a good time sharing this new material in the working groups and exercises, and will be editing a video about the experience. We ended the workshop feeling a lot of inspiration for our Común Tierra Project and for many other projects that are still in the *dream* phase!

AND THE ROUTE CONTINUES ...

Minhoca by Lake Colbun, Talca area

After the workshops, we spent a few days renewing some of Minhoca’s painting, and experimenting with our solar oven at the organic farm of our friends Judith and Oji. And as is the nomadic life, we are back on the road, on our way south towards new adventures ...

We’ve got a lot of activities planned for the next month ... a few days at El Manzano permaculture school and farm, the Ecovillage Gathering of the ECO Chile network, A training for Leticia to become a Sahumadora, visits to other new projects, and new videos almost ready to upload ... and more to come!

Saludos con amor,
Leti y Ryan
